Ski season guide: Sölden

Season

The glacier ski area usually opens in October; the whole resort runs from mid-November to early May.

The drive from Munich

Via the Inn valley motorway to the Ötztal exit, then about an hour up the Ötztal (B186). Allow extra time on Saturdays.

Busiest travel days

Saturdays are changeover day almost everywhere in the Alps, with queues on the Inn valley motorway (A12) and resort roads. Christmas to New Year, the February school holidays (Germany, the Netherlands, the UK half-term and Scandinavia) and Easter are the busiest weeks – book early and allow extra time for the drive back to the airport.

Our tip

Sölden is snow-sure early and late in the season – ideal for October/November or Easter trips when lower resorts are closed.
