Munich Airport to the Alps: How to Get to Your Ski Resort (2026/27 Guide)

Munich Airport (MUC) is one of the best gateways to the Alps: many of the biggest ski resorts in Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Germany are two to four hours away by road. Here is how the main options compare – and how long the drive takes to the most popular resorts.

Your options from Munich Airport

  • Train: the S-Bahn takes you to Munich Hauptbahnhof or Freising, from where trains run to Kufstein, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Garmisch. You usually need one or two changes, plus a bus or taxi for the last part – with skis and suitcases.
  • Shared shuttle: cheaper per seat, but you wait for other passengers and stop at several hotels, which can add hours on busy Saturdays.
  • Private transfer: the driver meets you in arrivals and drives you door to door at a fixed price per vehicle. For families and groups it is often the cheapest option per person.

Tips for a smooth arrival

  • Give us your flight number – the driver tracks your flight and waits free of charge if you are delayed.
  • Travelling on a Saturday? Expect queues on the Inn valley motorway (A12) and the resort roads; a Sunday or mid-week arrival is much quieter.
  • Book your return transfer at the same time – you get 5 % off and the pick-up time is planned around your flight home.
